Documentary about Novgorod
A documentary dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the foundation of northwest Russia’s Veliky Novgorod is to be released in September, a local administration spokesman said on Monday. The Russian Travel Guide TV channel completed the documentary, tentatively titled “A Walk Across the City” after a four-day shoot in the historic city, reports a Russian news service. The documentary depicts the unique relics of Veliky Novgorod’s past, discovered by archeologists during a series of excavations in the city. One of them is the 10th century Novgorod Codex book, the earliest written example of Church Slavonic. A premiere intended for both Russian and foreign audience is due to take place on September 19 - 21, during the celebration of the city’s 1150th anniversary. Local authorities believe the film will attract tourists and investors to the city. About 160,000 tourists visit the city every year, with the number increasing by 8-10% annually, a local administration official said.
